Cal. 48. NSN. The 4 1/2" tapered octagon barrel is not fitted with a patent breech and has London black powder proofs at breech end. Lock has chamfered plate with rebated tail and is fitted with serpentine cock, semi waterproof pan, bridled frizzen and roller feather spring with pad finial. Lockplate is engraved with sprays of well cut scroll. "HORTON" is at center. (Most likely Hyla working in Birmingham between 1807-11). Full length stock with curled chamfered bag grip is brass mounted. Silver wire inlay is around barrel tang. Double beaded trigger guard with acorn finial has feather and floral engraving. An ebony ramrod with brass tip and worm tail mounts through brass thimble. CONDITION: good. Barrel with most original brown and case hardening of lock are uncleaned and are possibly quite good under old oil. Stock retains over 90% original French polish with considerable lifting and lightening at bottom. Bore is good, relatively smooth. Mechanically good. There is a 1" by 1/2" repair in wood on left side of stock which was possibly done during original manufacturing. Some silver wire is missing. (01-23024/MGM). ANTIQUE. $600-1,200.
