The left flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Crown/B, Crown/U, and Crown/G proofs, closely followed by the cal. designation, with the bottom flat exhibiting an indistinct monogram as well as the S# "785". Left side of the frame is marked "TELL/ SYST: BUCHEL", with faint Crown/B and Crown/U proofs stamped on the right (which is also present on the right side of the breechblock). Frame exhibits decorative foliate border engraving on the sides, with punch dot engraving present on the top around the breechblock as well as on the bottom around the trigger plate. Top flat of the breechblock features matte, wavy line engraving. Frame, trigger guard, and lever exhibit a case-color-hardened finish, while the bbl. exhibits a blue finish. Some small parts, including the triggers, breechblock, and forend screw, retain a straw finish. Frame is mounted with a 1-piece checkered wood thumbrest grip featuring a horn pommel cap as well as a checkered wood forend. Matching numbers are present via "785" or "85" on the forend screw, bbl., double-set trigger plate, trigger guard, internal lock mechanism, as well as on the lever. Ramped front sight base with removable iron sight. Current open-top sight retains its protective "ears" but no longer retains its iron sight. Top of the frame is grooved for a rear sight, which is absent. CONDITION: frame retains large amounts of its case color hardened finish, exhibiting strong coloring, some light to mild wear, fading, and superficial handling marks overall, with a dragline present on the left from operation over the safety lever. Lever and trigger guard retain fair amounts of their case color hardened finish, exhibiting wear and fading that shows through to gray patina, scattered spots of age-related discoloration, as well as some mild surface oxidation. Bbl. retains the majority of its blue finish, exhibiting some wear and thinning that shows through to a pleasing brown patina, as well as some scattered spots of light surface-level pitting. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting while retaining good to strong rifling throughout. Wood grip and forend show some smoothing to their checkering, as well as some scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage. Upper portion of the thumbrest on the left side of the grip has broken off and is absent, with the forend exhibiting a crack that stems from the tip. A very attractive German falling block single-shot pistol by Buchel. (24-2404/MLW). CURIO. $ 500-1,000.
