Cal. 7.65mm. S# 2542. Bbl. 4.13". The Sugiura Shiki pistol, a largely enlarged version of a Colt Model 1903 Hammerless, was made during late WWII from 1944-1945. Recorded S#s suggest the production of just under 6,000 pistols, just over half being marked with Japanese Kanji, the balance going to the invading Chinese. This all matching Japanese variation has right side of the frame marked with the usual triad of Kanji characters referencing type. The full S# is on the right side of the slide and frame, with disassembly showing the same # repeated on the bbl. and right side of the mag. As per the Colt 1903 the pistol is a single action blowback with the serrated lever on the left side of the frame serving as both the safety and a hold-open for disassembly. Fitted with checkered bordered wood grips and a butt released mag. drilled with 7-indicator holes and a pinned floorplate. MAGS: 1 8-rd. CONDITION: near excellent as reblued, minor scuffs and handling marks as carefully photographed. Excellent remanufactured grips and mag. The S# of the mag. having been reapplied. Generally bright bore with shallow rifling. Correct manual mechanics though the safety lever is loose and easily rotated once pistol has been fired. A scarce Japanese military pistol. (25-3441/LMA). CURIO. $4,500-6,500.
