FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS. Cal. 1 3/8" (at flared muzzle). NSN. Bbl. 12". Flintlock blunderbuss likely of Eastern European origin. Lockplate features light vine type scroll engraving. Bbl. features a faceted breech section which transitions to a rnd. bbl., terminating in a large flare at the muzzle. Top of the bbl., bbl. tang, trigger guard, and buttplate feature flattened and foliate engraved metal ornamentation. Stock features areas of relief carving and wire inlays overall, with textured panels present on the butt/wrist. Left side of stock features 2 iron sideplates. Overall length of gun measures approx. 20 15/16" from the muzzle to the buttplate. CONDITION: lock assembly has faded to a mottled gray patina, showing scattered spots/areas of light to mild surface oxidation. Bbl., sideplates, trigger guard, and buttplate retain traces of bluing in protected areas. Hammer does not hold when trigger is pulled at half cock, but lock otherwise retains proper manual mechanics. Stock shows some scattered superficial handling marks and minor impressions, with some minor chipping present along the bbl. channel and lockplate. Wire inlays remain mostly intact, with some losses. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection. (01-27693/MLW). ANTIQUE. $700-1,000.
