RIFLE. Cal. 40 (40-60). S# 11576. Bbl. 28" octagon. German silver blade front sight, semi Buckhorn sporting rear sight and midrange Vernier tang sight. Double set triggers. Case colored action has engraving typical of the model 1881 period. The engraving features circular vignettes with deer on both sides and deer’s head on breach bolt. Scenes are surrounded by arabesque scroll with punch dot backgrounds and straight line borders that continues to upper and lower receiver areas. Straight grain walnut forearm and straight grip stock have hand checkering. Steel shotgun butt and forearm cap are case colored. UNATTACHED ACCESORIES: Cody firearms records check stating; "Type: Rifle / Caliber: 40-60 / Barrel Length: 28 inches / Set Trigger / Date Shipped: September 22, 1885". CONDITION: beautifully restored rifle. Metal retains 99% re-blued and recase colored finish. Stock has very good refinish with freshly cut checkering. Trigger is not setting properly. Lightly pitted bore has darkened appearance retaining intact rifling. (01-22319/DS). ANTIQUE. $3,500-5,000.
