COMBO MARKED "JB". Cal.36 rifle, 45 smooth. NSN. Bbls. 34" half rnd., half oct., have hickory ramrods mounted in brass pipes & forend pieces on each side. Both bbls. fitted w/ V notch rear & brass blade sights. Rotating bbls. are locked in place by extension of trigger guard. Pulling guard to rear allows bbls. to swivel. Unusual lock has domed brass plate on right side w/ matching false plate on left. Curly maple stock is brass mounted & has silver wire & other decorative inlay. Crescent buttplate has 4" return & added spear finial at top. Brass patchbox on right side has rectangular hidden release at return. Most brass parts have geometric engraved outlines & some sprays of scroll. Silver wire inlay consists of an outline of right hand side of stock w/ chain of scrolls. There are some heart & teardrop shaped tacked on decorations on right side. Left side of stock has incised carving at rear of traditional fluted cheekpiece that has a triangular silver decoration tacked on. Other silver decoration on this side consist of star & heart motifs above & oval & tear drop shaped decorations below cheekpiece. CONDITION: bbls. are mostly dark brown patina w/ some cleaned highlights on edges of oct. portions of bbl. Brass once cleaned is toning to mustard. Silver nicely toned. Stock retains most of what appears to be its original finish. There are some wire inlays missing mostly at top of lockplate. Lock quite weak. Bores rough. An attractive rifle.
