WELL DONE BONE INLAY. Cal. 70. S# NSN. Probably essembled in the late 19th Century this good looking but non-working replica has 26" round barrel. Lockplate of early style wheellock is very nicely engraved with scrolls and scenes of horses and dogs. Internal parts removed and wheel peaned into place. Fruitwood stock with sliding patchbox cover on right side is near fully covered with very nicely shaped and shaded bone inlays consisting of grotesque faces, running animals including foxes, rabbits and stags with a background of scrolls and dots. A jaeger underneath a tree is on left side of butt. Buttplate is horn; trigger guard is filed steel. CONDITION: good. Metal with cleaned pitted surfaces. Wood with original oil finish with a few marks. Some repairs are noted either side of barrel tang; with replaced bone ramrod pipe. Bone figures have attractively aged. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27573/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-4,000.
