Cal. 45. NSN. Bbl. 10 15/16" octagon to rnd. with faceted transition. Top flat of the faceted breech is marked "W. BUCHELE", with a faint "W B" marked on the lockplate. William Buchele, 1895-1977, was a renowned builder of contemporary flintlock & percussion rifles & pistols in the 1960's -1970's. He is known as a co-author of the book "Recreating the American Long Rifle" with George Shumway and Peter Alexander. Browned bbl. and lock. Finely figured 2-wedge fastened maple stock features in-the-white wire inlays that terminate in brass flowers, with a border engraved in-the-white oval escutcheon inlaid on the wrist. Brass furniture features raised embellishments consisting on an eagle on the buttplate and foliate/floral patterns on the trigger guard, trigger guard finial, sideplate, wedge escutcheons and thimble. Dovetailed brass blade front sight with dovetailed browned iron U-notch rear sight. Brass tipped wood ramrod retained via 2 plain faceted brass pipes. CONDITION: very good, with lockplate showing some wear and thinning. Brass components retain a pleasing mellow patina. Proper manual mechanics. Mirror bore retaining well defined rifling throughout.
