VICTORY MODEL DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 38 S&W. S# V664553. Bbl. 5". Victory Model double action revolver mfg. by Smith & Wesson. Left side of bbl. is marked "SMITH & WESSON", with S&W's mfg. and patent information marked across the top and the caliber designation marked on the right. Left side of frame is engraved "Railway Police / Augsburg", with S&W's trademark logo marked on the right. Rear grip strap is stamped ''G.R.P.", (possibly indicating German Railway Police). Top strap is stamped with a US flaming ordnance bomb followed by "U.S. PROPERTY G.H.D.". Frame, cyl., and bbl. exhibit a parkerized finish, with the trigger and hammer exhibiting a case color hardened finish. Frame is mounted with 2 piece smooth wood grips and features a lanyard swivel on the butt. All numbers are matching and include the frame, cyl., ejector, and bbl. Interior of right grip panel is stamped with a matching number to the frame, minus the "V" suffix. CONDITION: very good, with metal components retaining the majority of their arsenal finish, exhibiting some mild thinning on the grip straps and a small concentrated area of oxidation on the left side of the bbl. at the muzzle. Brilliant mirror bore exhibiting sharp and well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. A very interesting, likely post war German used Smith & Wesson Victory Model revolver. PROVENANCE: from Lifelong Collection of Terrence McCarty. (24-578/MLW). CURIO. $300-400.
