MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 303 Brit. S# C88439. Bbl. 25". Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards. Blade front sight with protective ears. Butt socket is marked on right side "MA LITHGOW SMLE III* 1942". Receiver ring marked on left side with "MA" over "VII", crown "P" proof. Receiver marked "B4940" underneath bolt handle. Bolt handle has matching number. Barrel marked underneath rear sight "HV" and "SC". Nose cap has bayonet mount; not drilled for stacking swivel. Australian hardwood stock set. Forend number matches receiver. Buttstock is marked on right side "MA LITHGOW SMLE III* HV 1942". Marked "AUSTRALIA" under grip. Early U.S. importation mark. Brass trap buttplate. Correct khaki with sling. MAGS: 1 detachable 10 round. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 16 3/4" fullered blade Model 1907 bayonet. Left ricasso faintly marked "MA 1907" plus S#. Right ricasso marked with broad arrow, "X", "OA". Blade marked on top of grip with "R-55" (overhaul mark). Smooth hardwood grips retained by 2 screws. Right grip marked "SLAZ 52". Straight cross guard. Leather scabbard dated 1941. Replacement web frog dated 1943. Bayonet has good appearance retaining a large degree of arsenal rework finish. Scabbard has wear and flexing but is in serviceable condition. CONDITION: stock set has original finish with moderate wear and handling marks. Markings are legible. Metal retains 75% original parkerized type finish with thinning and light wear. Bore has lightly worn lands with frosted appearance in grooves. PROVANANCE: from The Collection of Curtis H Halvorson.
