Cal. 42. NSN. Bbl. 41 3/8" oct. w/ rifled bore measuring 7/8" across the flats at muzzle. Top flat has maker's mark "B E". Bone blade front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. Engraved trade lock & hammer marked "C. Bird / & Co. / PHILaD / WARRANTED". Plain trigger. Pin fastened full length walnut stock w/ Roman nose comb & cheekpiece indicative of mfg. in Schuylkill County & surrounding areas of east Pennsylvania. Brass fittings consist of rectangular lid, pierced & segmented patch box w/ daisy finial, crescent buttplate, toeplate, finger curl trigger guard, sideplate, nose cap & forend plate. German silver ornamentation consist of 3 half moons on each side of forearm w/ a larger one on cheekpiece along w/ tear drops for & aft of cheekpiece & forward of patch box. Toeline has rectangular name plate. Artificially striped hardwood ramrod held by faceted brass thimble & 2 brass pipes. CONDITION: metal has dark appearance w/ dents & marks w/ pitting heaviest in breech area. Patch box & some other brass fittings exhibit a dark aged patina. Stock has dark appearance w/ handling marks having cracks around sideplate & top tang areas. Bottom of stock between floorplate & forearm plate show added wood repair. Functioning lock. Dark bore w/ deep rifling. Neatly done reconversion is noticeable w/ lock removed. (01-18807/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
