MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 56542. Bbl. 23 13/16". Bbl. is marked behind front sight w/ "R.I.A. / flaming bomb / 9-18". This type of rifle was made-up notably by the Bannerman & Sedgley companies from surplus or rejected military parts w/ certain other parts being fabricated. This example, thought to be Bannerman, displaying no Sedgley markings, has a very low number Springfield receiver. Straight down bolt marked only w/ a "2" below safety lug. The rear sight is a Model 1898 Krag tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards & having the three sighting notches. The sight is mounted solidly in the Model 1903 base and uses the sight leaf for windage adjustment. The rear sight attaching screw is broken. Blade front sight. "S" type straight grip walnut stock set w/ grasping grooves & two recoil bolts. Stock is unmarked. Smooth flat buttplate w/o trap. Butt swivel, trigger guard & upper band are from the Model 1917 rifle. The trigger guard has been heavily modified to conform to the Model 1903 profile. Magazine follower spring is broken. Magazine follower is marked "E". Handguard is fabricated in two pieces w/ the loose joint under the lower band. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework type finish w/ moderate dents, scratches & handling marks throughout. Notable scratches & dents on right side of buttstock. Notable missing chip at buttplate tang. Metal retains 75% arsenal rework blue w/ thinning & wear. Fair worn bore w/ frosted grooves. (25-2961/RW). CURIO. $400-600.
