Cal. 223. S# M33463. Bbl. 19". The Beretta AR/70 rifle is an Italian offering designed by Vittorio Valle and introduced in 1970. Its development followed a joint study between Beretta & SIG that commenced in 1963 and was terminated in 1968. Beretta had tried to negotiate a contract w/ Colt to manufacture the M16 in Italy as well, but when it became clear that the firms would not be working together, Beretta started to aggressively market their own offering. They studied several gas & locking systems and ended up utilizing a conventional gas piston & recoil spring system, located above the barrel, & a twin lug locking system similar to those used at the time in the M2 Carbine & several Kalashnikov rifles. This variant has a matte black finish on all outward components. Protected post front sight. Dual aperture rear peep sight, marked at 150 meters & 300 meters. Left side controls. Right side, reciprocating charging handle. Black plastic pistol grip. Black plastic shoulder stock. Sling swivels front & rear on left side. Left side of receiver marked "BERETTA - PATENTED - MADE IN ITALY / MOD. AR70, 223" w/ matching serial number on upper and lower receivers. Right side marked "MOD. 70 / SPORT / BERBEN CORPORATION, N.Y. N.Y.". MAGS: 1 factory 30 rd. CONDITION: All aspects indicate very little use, if any. Shoulder stock demonstrates some evidence typical of vertical rack storage in the form of light drag lines. Finish remains complete & consistent. Bright bore w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Terrence McCarty. (24-564/JZ). MODERN. $3,000-5,000.
