SMG. Cal. 9mm. S# 800191. Bbl. 8.5". The Sterling SMG was originally developed by G.W. Patchett in the 1940s and originally named simply "The Patchett". Several variations were tested & offered, including semiautomatic-only carbines, & numerous versions of the SMGs that were eventually adopted by New Zealand, Canada, India & the United Kingdom. This example was built by Douglas Oefinger on a DLO tube. It is often compared to the STEN, based on its tubular receiver & left-side horizontal magazine placement. One quickly identifiable feature is the black wrinkle-type finish they were offered with. The shoulder stock is a sleek, folding type that collapses & folds under the receiver tube, almost out of sight, & can be operated in both open & closed configurations. Magazines have a capacity of 34 rounds and a slight curvature, arching forward. They do have the ability to operate w/ some STEN & Lanchester magazines as well. The operating mechanism is a select-fire, open bolt, blowback operated design. There is a safety / selector on the left side, above the pistol grip. Protected post front sight w/ dual aperture rear peep sight located at the rear of the receiver tube. It is serviced by removing the end cap at the rear of the receiver tube, where the recoil spring & bolt are removed to the rear. It currently sports a green canvas sling. MAGS: 7 Steel 34 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: owners manual, CD titled "Sterling SMG Technical Manual & Armorer's Course" in green 30 caliber US ammo can. CONDITION: all aspects indicate very little use. From a beautiful, complete & consistent finish to a bright bore w/ strong rifling, it doesn't have the normal "battle scars" of a transferable SMG. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE.(03-1677/JZ). MODERN CLASS III. $6,000-9,000.
