ON ORIGINAL SLED MOUNT WITH OPTICS. CURIO. Cal. 8mm. S# 46945. Bbl 30". This MG08 Maxim was mfg. by D.W.M. in Berlin in 1918. Items that correspond matching the original S# in some variation of 46945, including parts as they get smaller dropping numbers off to become shorter & fit the space including 46945, 6945, 945 & 45 consist of left side plate, top cover, bbl. jacket, sights, feed block, cocking lever, spade grip assembly & possibly others that are less clearly visible. Oil caps on spade grips are matching numbers, and thread off & on easily, retained by both present retention springs. Bolt marked 4595. Original sled mount. MAGS: 1 cloth belt w/ brass tabs, dated 1943. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: ZF12 Optics w/ original leather case. CONDITION: This is a beautiful example of the classic original belt-fed that started an entirely new generation of firepower. The finish is strong, consisting of bluing on sideplates, top cover, & barrel jacket. The receiver finish is as complete as any this cataloger has encountered. Everything moves fluidly and is extremely smooth. The spade grips are seldom encountered in this condition for a working firearm. Markings are filled w/ white for a striking contrast, easy to read. The oil caps are matching in numbers, and thread in and out effortlessly. The hardwood grips still retain their finger grooves and even the checkering is intact and in nice condition. The ZF12 optics appear to have the original gray / green finish on them, w/ all markings clear and intact. Bullet drop compensator is adjustable from 400m to 2000m & moves fluidly. The glass is quite clear w/ sharp reticle. Sled mount still has some of the original spare parts boxes, which are often missing. These were designed to hold extra locks, spare parts & tools. The mount, remarkably enough still retains the pads, front & rear, which are most often long gone. It has an even coat of paint that looks original. The screw drive elevation adjustment moves freely & it enjoys full adjustment. Forward water drain below bbl. jacket functions smoothly. Firing mechanism functions smoothly in all aspects & appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Brian Linde. (03-1817/JZ). THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT CURIO & RELIC REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. CURIO. CLASS III. $12,000-18,000.
