TYPE SCHUTZEN RIFLE BY ADAM SCHURT OF MUNICH. Cal. 8.15x47R. S# 384 (right side of opening lever seen when open). The 31" tapered octagon barrel is engraved with maker's name and address on broadened portion of top flat for mounting of barrel sight. Pin front sight is in front ramp with protective ears. An optical diopter rear sight is present with matching S# 384. Martini type action with fancy scroll operating lever is very finely engraved with well cut and shaded acanthus leaves at either side of Bulino type game scenes on sides of action. Left side of action depicts four chamois in alpine meadow; right side has deep woods scene of roaring stag with another stag and hinds in distance. Trigger guard bow and operating lever are engraved with more acanthus, the monogram "KP" is gold inlaid on bow. Triggers are double set. Buttstock of lightly crotch figured European walnut is mounted with heavy steel buttplate and shaped with thumb rest and usual saddle type cheekpiece. Right side of stock is finely deep relief carved with sprays of acanthus either side of central circular scene of running chamois. Left side has relief carving of roaring stag in deep woods behind cheekpiece. Remnants of an old eagle decorated decal are around toeline. Matching forend has acanthus carved tip and some checkering and attaches to barrel with sidebolt through oval steel escutcheons. CONDITION: fine. Barrel retaining most of its original brownish rust blue with considerable scattered freckling. Action retains most of its original French gray finish; considerably darkened with oil and age. Superb engraving remains clear. Stocks retain nearly all of their original oil finish with a few scattered marks and dings and show very little wear. Optics of rear sight clouded. Bore is very good to fine. Mechanically fine; with working set triggers. (01-27220/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,500-5,500.
