RIFLE. Cal. 45 smooth. NSN. Bbl. 43" full oct. signed "M. SPECHT". The percussion lock is marked "WARRANTED" & the 4 piece brass patchbox has 9 piercings. The rifle has a curly maple stock & a 4 1/2" long brass saddle plate. There is a 6 pointed silver star on the cheekpiece over a lg. inlay under the cheek. Moses was born in 1818 & died in 1895 working as a gunsmith in Beaver Township. By 1860 he was assessed as a merchant & not as a gunsmith. CONDITION: gun appears to be in original condition throughout w/ exception of the triangular piece of original wood cracked at the toe of the butt from shrinkage.
