TAKEDOWN RIFLE. Cal. 22 LR. S# T24640. Bbl. 19 3/8". SA-22 semi-automatic takedown rifle mfg. in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale and imported by Browning Arms Company, likely during the late 1950s. The top of the bbl. is marked "BROWNING ARMS COMPANY ST LOUIS Mo." above "MADE IN BELGIUM", with the cal. designation marked on the left, and BROWNING PATENTS" marked on the right. Front face of receiver is marked with the S#. Underside of bolt exhibits a triad of Belgian commercial proofs, with additional proofs present on the underside of the bbl. Sides of the receiver feature standard Grade I pattern engraving, consisting of wavy line borders and a foliate motif at the center of the panels, with a small foliate motif engraved on the underside of the trigger guard bow. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the bolt, which has been cleaned and re-polished in-the-white. Gloss finished checkered wood forearm and pistol grip buttstock with grooved steel buttplate. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and early pattern adj. square notch rear sight. Top of receiver is grooved for a scope mount attachment. All serialized parts are matching and include the receiver, lower assembly, and buttplate. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some scattered superficial handling marks, with patches of mild wear and thinning present on the underside of the receiver around the ejection port area and forward face of the trigger guard bow. Mirror bore, retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and small impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound.
