Cal. 577. NSN. Many of these weapons were supplied to the Confederacy. This musket has 39" rnd. bbl. w/ Nock form at rear. Belgian proofs stamped in front of percussion bolster, a star over "JG" is on top of bbl. Long range rear sight fitted. Enfield shaped lock w/ rnd. bodied hammer has star over "JG" proof matching that on bbl. Stock of fiddle figured walnut extends to within 3" of muzzle w/ brass cap & attaches to bbl. w/ three split bands. Remainder of rifle is brass mounted. Buttplate having 2" rounded top spur. Left side of stock marked "XLVIII". An old leather sling is fitted. CONDITION: good to very good. Bbl. & lock showing old cleaning & some darkening to gray brown over scattered pitting. Stock retains most of an old oil refinish w/ some subsequent marks. Bore is bright w/ some scattered pitting. Mechanically good. (01-20885/MGM). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
