RIFLE. Cal. 30 CF (Exact cartridge undetermined). S# 5123. Bbl. 22 3/8". Copy of a Remington Rolling Block No. 4 takedown rifle produced by P. Bischop in Belgium. Left flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with a partially discernible "P. BISCHOP/ BREVETE", followed by a series of Belgian commercial proofs. Left side of the receiver, breechblock, and hammer exhibit additional Belgian commercial proofs. Receiver and buttplate exhibit a case colored finish, with the bbl. exhibiting a blue finish. Rear sight assembly, takedown lever, breechblock, and hammer exhibit a nitre blue finish. Checkered wood forearm and straight grip buttstock with carbine style steel buttplate. Dovetailed blade front sight with elevation adj. V-notch rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the receiver and bbl., with the forearm matching via "5123" in pencil on the interior. CONDITION: metal components exhibit a layer of lacquer and retain the majority of their original factory finishes, exhibiting some spots and areas of wear and thinning, as well as some scattered spots of light surface oxidation. Bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of light to mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered superficial marks and small impressions from handling and storage, as well as some flaking and wear to their varnish finish, but otherwise remain sound. (26-2519/MLW).
