HANDLE PERCUSSION PISTOL. Cal. 45. NSN. 10” Overall. 6” Oct. brown striped bbl.. Engraved German silver grip and frame. Captured rammer assembly w/ German silver rail attached bottom of bbl. Birmingham small arms proofs on frame and bbl. Top flat engraved “Bien Brothers New Orleans” in script. New Orlean Gunsmiths text by Kit Gorman does not list Bien Brothers, but does list Bien & Cohen as a hardware merchant selling firearms till about 1839, Bien later went into business w/ his sons also selling firearms. John Bien died in 1861. CONDITION: very good overall as bbl. refinished. Makers marking weak & only partially discerned. Mechanically functional w/ smooth clear bore.
