SWORD. This is a very attractive Boyle & Gamble, Richmond, VA staff sword with well defined “CS” and star pierced design in hilt with rarely seen “tobacco leaf” relief decoration in pommel cap. Blade shows manufacturing forging "flaw" where iron tang blacksmith welded to steel blade. CONDITION: very good overall, 29.5" blade is gray, etching partially discerned but light and worn. Brass hilt & top 2 scabbard mounts have matching bronze patinas. Grip is complete as rewrapped leather & wire by Larry Mealor in 1990s. The accompanying scabbard is not Confederate but original Civil War manufacture with added reproduction drag. (02-19107/JS). $4,000-5,000.
