PERCUSSION CAVALRY PISTOLS. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbls. 7 7/8". Brace of French Model 1833 percussion cavalry pistols mfg. by Chatellerault. Lockplates are marked "Mre Rle de/ Chatellerault". The faceted twist damascus bbls. are marked with "D" and "L" proofs on the left quarter flat, "1847" marked on the right quarter flat, and an "MR" proof marked on the right side. Small blade front sights, with V-notch rear sights. Checkered wood oval butt stocks, with spurred trigger guards. Steel ramrods, with brass tipped ends. Threaded caps on butts are absent. CONDITION: good, with metal components retaining a dark mottled gray patina and exhibiting scattered areas of light to moderate pitting overall. Brass tips on ramrods exhibit a pleasing mellow patina. 1 pistols action holds at both half and full cock, with the latter holding only at full cock. Stocks show scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. 1 pistol exhibits what appears to be a hairline crack that stems from the lockplate to the trigger guard finial, as well as numerous impressions on the left side.
