DOUBLE SHOTGUNS WITH ONE PIECE BARRELS. These interesting high quality guns have barrels machined from one solid billet of steel in the manor similar to those made by Longthorne of England today. Whitworth's patented a similar process in 1857. Top ribs, lumps and loop are integral. The only parts soldered in are the base for sling loop on gun #2. No bottom ribs are present. 1.) Cal. 16ga. 2-9/16". S# 631. Has 28-1/2" barrels with matted rib numbered "1" on breech end. Maker's name is marked in milled out portion. Barrel flats are stamped with 1910 Vienna nitro proofs and "NICHT FUR KUGEL". Case hardened sidelock action has toggling safety on top tang ("S" inlaid in gold for schiessen (shoot) is automatically covered when gun is opened). Action also features bushed strikers, hidde n cross bolt third fastener, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators and double triggers. Action is filed with rounded bar and fluted fences. Engraving consists of near full coverage nicely cut Viennese style scroll within scroll borders. A central arched devise on each lockplate is engraved with maker's name. Steel trigger guard is engraved with matching scroll. Round knob pistol grip buttstock made of beautifully marbled European walnut measures 13-5/8" over checkered horn buttplate and features right hand shadow line checkpiece. Point pattern grip checkering and silver oval. Matching splinter Steyr pattern ejector forend is near fully checkered and has forward pivoting lever release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .660. R .660. Restriction: L .027 (IMod). R .009 (IC). Wall thickness: L .026. R .027. STOCK: DAH: 2-5/16". DAC: 1-1/2". CAST: about 1/4" off. LOP: 13-5/8". WEIGHT: 6 lb. 0 oz. CONDITION: very fine. Barrels retaining nearly all of a later rust re-blue with rib matting softened. Action and locks retain about 60% original case hardening color. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original oil finish however, edges are somewhat soft and finish might be freshened. Bores are bright and shiny without any noted problems. Action is tight. Ejectors are slightly out of time. 2.) Cal. 16ga. 2-9/16" S#640. Matches all technical features except barrels proofed in 1911, measure 29-1/8" and are marked "2" on rib. Action has a different pattern of engraving consisting of sprays of open scroll with floral bouquet highlights. Maker's name is on forward edge of each lockplate. Wood is of blonde colored stumped figured European walnut and has a sling loop on toeline matching the one on barrels. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .660. R .660. Restriction: L .028 (IMod). Action and locks with about 40% case color. Stocks refinished and retain nearly all of that finish. Bores are bright and shiny.
