GUN WITH PURDEY STYLE SELF OPENING ACTION. Cal. 12 ga. 2 3/4". S# 2897. The 28 1/2" well struck dovetailed bbls. with slightly raised matted game rib are engraved "L. Brancquaert" "Bruxelles" on tops. Bbl. flats are stamped with pre-1926 Belgian Nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Serial number is on bottom of rear lump. Coin finished round bodied action with ornamental sideplates is fitted with Purdey type cocking cams at front. Water table is stamped "A.G.D. Patent" (A. G. Deforney). Action also features nonautomatic safety, Purdey type third fastener, sideclips and double triggers. Maker's name and address are on floorplate. Action is engraved with near full coverage varying size but mostly medium, well cut scroll surrounding rose bouquets within small scroll, feather, and geometric borders. Fences are semi-relief engraved with laurel leaves. Blued trigger guard with matching scroll on bow has serial number on tang. Straight grip buttstock of very nicely figured and lightly marbled European walnut measures 14 1/2" over "Silver" type pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip. and a vacant gold oval and a sling loop matching that screwed to bottom rib, are on toeline. Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .720", L .720". Restriction: R .026" (MOD), L .037" (FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: R .029", L .030". STOCK: DAH: 2 3/8". DAC: 1 1/2". LOP: 14 1/2". CAST: 5/8" off. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 13 oz. CONDITION: good as refinished. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a good quality reblue over marks and light scratches. Action is cleaned to coin finish. Engraving is very slightly softened. Top lever has been heat blued and is mostly light purple to blue. Trigger guard has had the same treatment. Stocks retain nearly all of a glossy oil refinish, checkering competently recut. Bores are bright and shiny with no evident problems. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Louis Brancquaert was known for providing only the finest made guns soured from Belgian's best makers to his clientele. (22-4478/MGM). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
