SHARPE. Cal. 55. NSN. The 9" tapered brass barrel is marked "EXTRA" "SHARPE" "PROOF" on top. Birmingham proofs are at left. Trade type lock with flat plate is fitted with serpentine cock, integral rounded pan, unbridled frizzen and roller feather spring with spear finial. "SHARPE" is marked at center (most likely John working in Birmingham 1811-17). Elmwood stock with brass capped knob grip is fitted with serpentine sideplate, simple brass trigger guard and a vacant pewter oval at top of grip. Simple starburst engraving is at center of trigger guard bow and sideplate. Stock extends to muzzle and is pinned to barrel. Rosewood ramrod with brass tip and steel worm tail mounts through single beaded brass pipe and matching thimble. CONDITION: good. Brass showing old cleaning has toned to golden brown. Lock shows cleaning to silver highlights. Stock show many light marks in old possibly original finish. Bore is dark but smooth. Lock is good. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E.
