PISTOL. Cal. 71. NSN. British heavy dragoon pistol dating to the Napoleonic Wars 1792-1815. Trigger guard is engraved “17-LD/B/52” indicating the 17th Light Dragoons, B Company, Soldier #52. The 17th served in Ireland, the West Indies & South America after the Yorktown defeat during the American Revolution. Bbl. 9 1/8" round. Top has two British proofs. Lock forward of hammer has crown over “GR” marking. Rear portion of lock is marked “TOWER”. Pin fastened round butt walnut stock. Brass trigger guard, side plate, thimble & single pipe. Button tipped iron ramrod. CONDITION: metal has acquired a dark crusty appearance w/ age. Stock shows heavy wear & handling marks. Cracks are found in side plate, lock & forearm areas w/ a plug type repair above thimble. Functioning lock. Dark pitted bore. (01-23052/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
