INDIAN RIFLE. From Milton Von Damm collection, added to collection after publication of "The Fur Trade". 60.5" overall, "44.5" octagonal barrel marked "LONDON" with Board of Ordnance proof marks…. The lock is marked R&R over SUTHERAND followed by the Board of Ordnance broad arrow mark. It [lock] Is 5 3/8 inches long, was originally flintlock but was converted to an early barrel percussion system…The stock is in excellent condition with only one small inside repair near the lock. The stock is not the military pattern of known war of 1812 British contract rifles with the Baker style patch box. The stock on this rifle has no patch box and it's more of a trade rifle style. The trigger guard is more elongated than rounded and the trigger is thick and rugged. The ferrules are the same sturdy pattern as the Indian contract rifles". CONDITION: very good as configured.
