Cal. 577. NSN. Bbl. 39" octagon to round w/ a faceted transition & smoothbore. Left flat has British proof marks. Lockplate is marked "WARRANTED" behind hammer w/ an engraved elephant forward of hammer. Elephant on lockplate indicates possible shipment to India, all purpose muskets were often used by colonists in British territories. Full length pin fastened walnut stock w/ thin comb. Left ear is stamped "JC". Brass fittings consist of buttplate, sideplate, trigger guard, faceted thimble, 3 faceted pipes & nose cap. Top of wrist has a circular brass plate. Brass tipped iron ramrod. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to a mottled gray/brown showing some very light pitting. Wood shows age related wear w/ dents & marks. Sound lock & trigger.
