A good British volunteer rifles of the M1822 form measuring 39 1/4" overall with an etched blade that shows foliate motifs, crowned VR, crowned horn, and "RIFLE VOLUNTEERS". The blade's ricasso is marked "ROB. MOLE & SONS Birmingham Makers to the WAR & INDIA OFFICES". Gilded brass 5 branch hilt with a crowned VR in the pierced guard. Wire wrapped shark skin grip with a leather sword knot. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina with some minor spotting. Hilt shows traces of the original gilded finish. Grip solid. Knot complete. PROVENANCE: From the PMRB Collection. (02-25854/BF). NON-GUN. $300-500.
