INSCRIPTION. Overall length: 33 1/4". Blade length: 27 1/4". Plain blade w/ a single narrow fuller near the spine. There is a 6 rayed stamping near the ricasso. Brass heart shaped guard terminating in a bulbous pommel. Engraved on top of the guard is a commemorative inscription likely from the late 1800s that reads, "Taken from a British Grenadier at Brandywine Creek 1777" & "By Lieut. H. Burbeck 3rd ART. REGT.". Wood grip. Brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray cleaned finish. Hilt has a dark patina. Guard has no evidence of ever having a quillon. Scabbard leather has a partial break in the center that is not detached. Brass has a dark patina. Leather is moderately flaked. (02-16112/BF). $700-1,000.
