SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 577/450. NSN. Bbl. 33 1/4". Ladder rear sight graduated to 1200 yards. Inverted V stud type front sight. Interesting early short lever Martini-Henry rifle. Mfg. by BSA in England. The rifle carries both British & Nepalese markings & predates the Zulu wars. Receiver is marked on right side w/ a crown, “V.R.”, “BSA & M.CO”, “1876” & “Crown Arrow II.”. Left side of receiver & bbl. have numerous view marks plus broad arrow & WD. Left side of bbl. below rear sight marked “N.S. NEP” which internet research indicates stands for “Native States” which were countries near the British Raj known to receive arms from the British. “NEP” is likely Nepal. 2 Piece walnut stock set. Forend is fastened by 2 bands. Upper band has bayonet lug. Original cleaning rod is present. Buttstock is marked on the right side. (Markings appear to be Nepalese, 94 & AC over 28.) Enfield roundel over 1 & II over 1894 roundel “Altahara …?” & “2”. Unmarked vintage brown leather sling w/ rawhide fastening. CONDITON: stock set has moderate wear & handling marks expected in an elderly rifle w/ long service, but retains good appearance & generally clear markings. Metal retains a good degree of early arsenal rework blue w/ thinning & wear turning gray & patina. Good bore w/ very fine pitting throughout. (01-22344/RW). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
