Overall length: 38 1/2". Blade length: 32". The 14th Light Dragoons were a hard fought unit seeing various actions throughout the Napoleonic Wars as well as late service in the American War of 1812 at New Orleans. The regiment was known as "The Emperor’s Chambermaids" because of their capture of a solid silver chamber pot belonging to Napoleon’s brother. Blade features a single wide fuller. Iron hilt w/ spade shaped languets & bird’s head style pommel. Leather covered, wire wrapped grip. Iron scabbard engraved at the throat, "14. L-DS B/17". CONDITION: blade has a light gray finish w/ scattered areas of cleaned oxidation. Hilt has a dark patina. There is a chip at the top of the grip w/ about 5% of the wood & leather missing. Otherwise, the wood, leather & wire wrap are nearly complete. Scabbard has a dark overall patina w/ no major flaws. (02-16130/BF). $800-1,200.
