FOWLER / MUSKET. Cal. 54. NSN. Bbl. 39 3/4" rnd. with smooth bore and fixed front sight. Left side of breech end of bbl. has 2 Crown over apparent cross sword proofs that appear to be Birmingham black powder proofs bracketing the # "30". Top of bbl. and lock have an apparent Crown over reversed "F" followed by "R" proofs. Contoured hammer & lockplate with pointed tail & iron pan. Plain trigger. Trim pin fastened full length walnut stock with fluted wrist having a notched comb. Brass buttplate with long pointed finial. Additional brass furniture consists of sideplate, trigger guard, nose cap, and oval escutcheon at wrist. Button tipped iron ramrod is held by a faceted brass thimble and 3 pipes. Sling rings are located on front of trigger guard and above forward pipe. Weight: 5lbs. 4.2oz. CONDITION: bright finished bbl. and lock are acquiring a spotted brown patina appearance showing spots of light pitting. Stock has a dark brown painted style finish showing scratches, marks, and wear spots. A small crack is located forward of the upper sideplate screw. Sound lock and trigger. Dark heavily pitted bore.
