SPEAR.
1) 1751 SWORD. Overall length: 29 7/8". Blade length: 24 3/8". Plain, single fullered, curved blade stamped on 1 side “(crown) 2”. The other side is marked, “DEAKIN” 3" up from the hilt & “B (broad arrow) O” adjacent to the hilt. Solid coppery brass hilt w/ diagonal twist grip. Bulbous pommel & 2 branch guard. Underside of guard is engraved, “Mx Y”. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina but is relatively undamaged. Hilt is quite loose but shows no major faults. Hilt shows traces of gilding in protected areas.
2) LANCE. Overall length: 75 1/2" w/ a 13" iron head. Haft is finished wood w/ gold painted highlights. CONDITION: head has a dark patina. Haft shows normal wear w/ some loss of gold paint.
3) SPEAR. Overall length: 80 1/2" w/ a 15" head. The spear possibly originates from the African continent. The haft may be an early replacement but fits the head well & has a pleasing appearance. CONDITION: head has a dark iron finish mixed w/ areas of deep red oxidation. Haft is strong w/ minor scuffs & scrapes. (02-15428/BF). $700-1,000.
