PERCUSSION REVOLVER BY E. M. REILLY WITH CASE AND ACCESSORIES.
Cal. 48. S# NSN. This high condition early British revolver has blued 5 1/2" octagon barrel which attaches to pepperbox type frame with two screws through central axis pin. Top flat is engraved "REILLY 502 New Oxford Street, London". Case hardened six shot cylinder with Birmingham proofs has nipples shielded by frame in pepperbox style. Case hardened pepperbox type double action frame with top hammer is engraved with large shaded scroll flanked by smaller open scrolls. Two piece grips are fully checkered. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: revolver is housed in quartered oak case with key lock closure which has fancy shaped medallion on top engraved "TG" ?. Interior is lined in royal blue velvet and a large Reilly paper label is in lid. Bottom compartment is fitted for revolver and some good quality accessories including a bag shaped copper bodied powder flask, nutcracker type ball mould marked "54" with one leg shaped for tamping, a boxwood cap bottle, rosewood handled nipple wrench and a rosewood and brass loading rod. A covered compartment holds some cast balls. CONDITION: very fine. Barrel retaining over 60% original blue. Cylinder retains over 80% case hardening color which is quite vivid, action retains most of its case color which was never vivid and is actually gray in color. Bore is bright and shiny with congealed oil. Revolver does not appear to have been fired much if at all, nipples remain bright. Mechanically fine. Case is also fine with many marks and scuffs in original varnish finish. Interior cloth is very fine with some rubs and compressions. Label is fine with some marks and rubs, lightly foxed. Accessories run from very good to fine. A scarce and interesting early revolver in exceptional condition. (01-22257/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-4,000.
