SLIDE ACTION RIFLE.
Cal. 22 RF. S# 21927. Bbl. 24” round. Combination front sight, fixed U notch rear sight & Vernier style tang sight w/ large disc aperture. 2/3 Length tubular mag. Blue finish w/ case colored hammer & brass loading block. Left side of bbl. & receiver have British proofs. The rampant Colt motif is also found on the left side of the receiver. 1 Piece walnut milk pail handle style slide handle w/ wraparound checkering. Pistol grip stock of nicely grained walnut w/ hard rubber buttplate. Nameplate in toe line having wraparound hand checkering w/ additional checkering at bottom of grip. Toe line in stock is stamped with a star followed by “18174”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: leather covered rifle case w/ burgundy felt lined interior. Case exterior is marked with initials “E.V.F.”. Case is marked Holland & Holland w/ 98, New Bond St, address. Case contains brass tipped steel cleaning rod, turnscrew, sterling silver oil bottle, wire hangers, Winchester gun grease & case straps. Also included is a wrapped 100 rd box of Eley 22 long cartridges. Colt mfg. company letter lists the following information: “COLT LIGHTNING MAGAZINE SLIDE ACTION RIFLE”, “’Small Frame’”, “Serial Number: 21927”, “Caliber: .22 Rimfire”, “Barrel Length: 24”, Octagon configuration”, “Finish: Blue”, “Type of Stocks: Full pistol grip, checkered wood”, “Special Features: Furnished with Colt peep and Beach combination sights”, “Shipped To: Colt’s Patent Fire Arms Mfg. Company London Agency”, “Address: 14 Pall Mall London, England”, “Date of Shipment: March 26, 1896”, “Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 15”. CONDITION: very fine, retaining over 90% lightly faded blue w/ scattered spots of corrosion. Original wood finish shows light wear & crazing w/ scattered scratches, dents & marks. Checkering shows some wear & flattened diamonds. Sound mechanics. Bore retains sound lightly worn rifling. (01-22958/DS). ANTIQUE. $7,500-10,000.
