DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 455 Mark I. S# 21239. Bbl. 6 1/2". .455 Hand Ejector 2nd Model double action revolver mfg. by Smith & Wesson under contract for the British military. Left side of the bbl. is marked "SMITH & WESSON" below British proofs. Frame exhibits numerous British proofs, with the S&W trademark logo marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the trigger and hammer, which exhibit a case color hardened finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece S&W medallion diamond checkered wood grips. Half-moon blade front sight, with frame notched rear sight. Lanyard loop on butt. Matching numbers are present on the frame, cyl., ejector, and bbl. Interior of right grip panel is matching via the full S# in pencil. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, as well as scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting a few spots of light oxidation and/or pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing, as well as scattered superficial marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. (24-4128/MLW). CURIO. $600-900.
