Cal. 45 Colt. S# 20095. Bbl. 6 1/2". Round blade front sight. WWI-era British contract revolver, mfg. 1914–1915. Matching numbers on frame and bbl. Cyl. and extractor match, but they do not match the frame number. Fixed rear sight. Blued finish with a case-colored trigger & hammer. Cyl. reamed to accept 45 Colt and was originally in 455 Eley. The left side of the gun has various British proofs instead of the "NOT ENGLISH MAKE" marking. The left rear also has an inscription that reads "Lt. LD.Schofield/7TH Cheshire Regt.". During WWI, the 7th Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment was a reserve volunteer unit. During WWII, the 7th would fight in France & Italy. Further research of Lt. Schofield may prove interesting. Unnumbered checkered diamond magna grips with gold S&W medallions. The bottoms of the grip panels have carvings that appear to read "LD" & "6 CHE." A lanyard ring is present on the bottom of the grip frame. CONDITION: grips show scattered dings and handling wear. Trigger & hammer retain much of their case colors, with some operational wear and scattered oxidation. The balance of metal retains 60% of its blue with an overall flaking to brown, a few dings, and some scattered oxidation. Good, bright bore with some light oxidation but strong rifling. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (24-1134/MJC). CURIO. $400-600.
