CHAPEAU. The uniform is fine red wool, lined in white & conforms to the regulations of 1856-1868. The collar & cuffs are black velvet edged with 3/4" gold bullion tape. The front of the coat & tails are piped in white. There are 8 large buttons down the front that show a “VR” cipher surrounded by the words “MEDICAL STAFF”. There are an additional 6 buttons on the tail with more 3/4" gold bullion tape. The cuffs each have 3 large buttons with bullion tape & white piping over the black velvet. The collar has 1 large bullion crown on each side of the front. The shoulder strap is twisted crimson cord terminated by a small Medical Staff button. The shoulder sash is gold bullion with 2 crimson stripes ended in 2 large tassels. The belt features gold bullion tape over red Moroccan leather. Both sword straps are present & the interlocking buckle features a central silver lion on crown. The black chapeau has a bullion tassel on each end & a single bullion chevron with button on the side. The chapeau comes with a correct white feather plume. CONDITION: uniform shows a few tiny areas of moth damage but remains solid & immensely visually attractive. The belt & sash show light wear, as does the chapeau. (02-18161/BF). $1,000-1,500.
