ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 303 British. S# G 646. Matching serial number on receiver and bayonet lug. Bbl. 25". Import-marked on left side of receiver. Rifle is marked on receiver ring, bolt head, and under rear sight leaf "DP," indicating the rifle was removed from service but was kept for drill purposes. Receiver is marked on right side of butt socket with worn "crown / GR", "ENFIELD / 1916 / SHTLE" and "III." Receiver has opposed arrows on the left side of the ring, indicating the rifle was sold from service. Receiver is marked on left rear "NRF." Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards. Blade front sight. Nosecap has protective ears and bayonet mount. Stacking swivel and screw are not present. Receiver fitted with mag. cutoff. Bolt head with vertical notches. Unmarked hardwood stock set with brass trap buttplate. MAGS: one detachable 10 rd. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework finish. Buttstock has inletted repairs at heel and toe. Handguard tennons have been removed from sides of rear sight. Rear nosecap screw does not tighten correctly. Metal has traces of blue turning gray and patina with wear and scattered spots of light oxidation. Bore has worn rifling with light pitting and is turning dark in the grooves. (24-5993/RW).
