Cal. 7X57 (7mm Mauser). S# 34818. Bbl. 23" with front ramped base having dovetailed bead; rear dovetailed island base missing its sight. Mfg. 1950; 1946-1955 for Model 21 (S#14410-40098) variant (long barrel) and 1941-1955 for model 22 variants (shorter 20 1/2" barrel). Uncommon example fitted with full length stock on longer barrel rather than more conventional looking half stock configuration; similar in appearance to Mauser's African Sporter style. Commercial small ring Model 98 appearing action that is actually a descendant of the VZ33. Top of receiver has integral grooved scope mounts of Sako style (straight grooves, not tapered). Left rail of receiver is without charging thumb slot of military actions. Bolt release has checkered top at front. Matching proofs and dates on barrel and action. Fitted with double set triggers that are integral to the trigger guard base. In the white floorplate is finely engraved with 3 bucks in glen having forest background. Trigger guard is attached to base in double shotgun style having pointed rear tang retained by wood screw; base secured commercially with 2 action screws (no military style lock screws). Stock has checkered forend and pistol grip, European sling swivels (front is barrel band reinforced), sporting sling, nose cap plus hard rubber grip cap and border checkered buttplate. In the white bolt assembly numbered 3286 has handle forged to clear scope (checkered and flattened knob) and Buehler low scope safety. Vintage Bausch & Lomb BalVar 8 scope in B&L Plunger ring set; 2 1/2-8 power and proprietary thin tapered triangle reticle. Front bridge of receiver drilled and tapped for base that is shimmed and machined to fit. Rear base attached to side of receiver with drilled and tapped holes; no alteration to top of rear bridge. CONDITION: good general appearance but needs gunsmith attention to properly function; bolt will not close as it appears restricted by its locking lugs or safety lug. Stock will also have to be relieved for reshaped bolt handle. Blued metal finishes are very good to excellent plus near excellent bore. Good plus stock set with hand wear and normal handling marks. Scope has wear on bottom of eyepiece likely caused by bolt rubbing from another use; ample clearance here. Optics are useable, but many noticeable specks when viewed at higher powers (very clear at lower powers); common B&L trait (needs professional cleaning). (25-5049/NW). CURIO. $400-600.
