Cal. 12 GA. 2 3/4". S#. 248972. Bbl. 30". Solid raised rib with "Made in Belgium" and "Browning Arms Company St Louis Mo." markings and matching serial number. Full choke. Steel front bead sight. Barrels for A5 shotguns were serial numbered to the gun until 1953, with this specific example dating to late 1947. The last three digits of the serial number are also found on the bolt. The receiver is factory engraved with a foliate scroll and wavy border with Browning trademark, St. Louis Mo Address, and an added hand stamped "RR" on the left side over the trigger guard. Checkered walnut round knob pistol grip stock set with added vent pad. CONDITION: overall good metal finish with the barrel showing some light muzzle wear, a small patch of thinned finish from a rub on the left side 12" from the muzzle, some light scattered handling marks, and mild wear from forearm removal. The receiver is very good, with some light high-edge wear and mild rub marks. There is some fine pinprick oxidation present on metal components. Stock is good with some light handling marks. The forearm has a fine hairline crack that is common to find on these models due to the recoil. Recoil pad is mildly crackling from age. Nice, bright bore. (24-5402/ZAL). CURIO. $350-500.
