LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 40-65 WCF. S# 14228. Bbl. 26" octagon. Top flat of bbl., between mfg. markings and rear sight is stamped "BROWNING BROS. OGDEN, UT". D.W. King replacement bead front sight, with Marbles Express replacement rear sight. Full length mag. Original finish was blue and case colored. Walnut forearm and straight grip stock, with crescent steel buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Buffalo Historical Center record stating "rifle/ 45/90 caliber/ octagon barrel/ plain trigger/ received in the warehouse on February 17, 1888/ shipped from the warehouse on February 22, 1888 along/ with 5 others with the same specifications". The cataloger finds it significant to note that the caliber does not match what is listed on the Buffalo Bill Historical Center record. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to mottled brown. Wood has added finish over heavy wear and age darkened appearance, with numerous scratches, marks, and deep dents. Left side of receiver has plug screws and 2 added holes for sight attachment. Sound action. Lightly pitted bore retains intact rifling. (01-27263/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
