Cal. 12ga. S# 1037. Bbl. 30" fine Damascus steel w/ fixed full choke. Unique slide action design by Andrew Burgess, also known for his Colt & Whitney lever action rifles. An estimated quantity of a few thousand were produced by the Burgess Gun Company of Buffalo, NY, 1892-99. The company was purchased by Winchester in 1899 & mfg. was discontinued. The action is cycled by the rearward motion of an iron sleeve w/ hard rubber grip over the wrist of the stock. Bbl. & top of breech block have standard Burgess markings. Action has factory engraving consisting of ornate spirals on sides of frame w/ straight line borders as well as spiral & leaf highlights. Straight grip stock of nicely grained walnut w/ hard rubber buttplate. Walnut forearm has wraparound point pattern factory checkering. Half length tubular mag. CONDITION: bbl. retains over 70% brown finish showing a vivid Damascus pattern. Exposed portion of mag. tube retains 80% blue. Action & slide have 30% fading blue in protected areas. Original wood finish & checkering show wear w/ dents, scratches & marks. Sound mechanics. Very good bright bore. (01-23418/DS). ANTIQUE. $1500-2500.
