BATTALION HEAVY ARTILLERY & 1st CONFEDERATE ENGINEERS. Benjamin Franklin Wilder enlisted on 12/9/1861 at Lambert's Point, Norfolk Co.VA as a private in company “B” 20th Battalion Virginia Heavy Artillery & had later service in 1st Confederate engineers in 1864 also at Norfolk serving till war’s end. Cabinet card has family inscription "Grandpa Wilder, Benjamin Franklin Wilder my maternal grandfather was mess sergeant under General Lee, Confederate Army, died about 1906". The photograph has Beeville, Texas photographers imprint. CONDITION: photo is 6 1/2” x 4 1/4” & fair to good overall, emulsion has some abrasion, soiling, tack hole at top edge, staining & reductions at bottom right corner. Texas imprint is readable & inscription on verso is reproduced in facsimile & framed next to card. (02-13598/JS). $400-600.
