CHIEF COURTLAND JOHNSON. Master Chief Cortland "Corky" Johnson had a long and illustrious career in the United States military. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and shortly after the war enlisted in the Army Air Force. After 2 1/2 years in the Army, he enlisted in the United States Marines with extensive service during the Korean War in many major battles. In 1955, he left the Marine Corps and enlisted in the Army Reserve where he served with distinction until 1966 when he joined the United States Navy. Johnson served throughout the Vietnam Conflict participating in many significant operations and ultimately closed the books on his lifelong military career in 1985 on the decks of the USS Arkansas. In 1991, he was appointed to the California State Military Reserve with the rank of CWO3. This uniform was worn by him during his tenure in the CSMR. Among the innumerable medals, awards, and distinctions on this uniform is the Navy Meritorious Service medal, the Navy Commendation medal (3), and the Navy Achievement medal (2). It is very interesting to note that Johnson was awarded the Army, Marine Corps, and Navy Good Conduct medals. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: loose leaf binder with photos and research about CMC Johnson's military career. CONDITION: uniform and its many decorations are in like new condition. (02-26233/BF).
