Cal. 31. S# 117900. Bbl. 4” octagon w/ cone style sight having engraved “Sam’l Colt” marking. Five shot round cyl. w/ stagecoach hold up rolled scene. Blue finish w/ silver finish brass backstrap & small round trigger guard. Bbl., frame, grip straps, cyl., loading lever & wedge have matching numbers. Engraving is Germanic style scroll on frame, bbl., loading lever & grip straps as done in the shop of master engraver Gustave Young. Hammer has signature wolf’s head ornamentation. 1 piece smooth elephant tusk grips. The letter “I” is found below the S#s on frame & grip straps indicating factory white grips. Mfg. 1856 prior to the American Civil War. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: period wood casing w/ purple velour fitted interior. Lid of case has a brass nameplate marked “J. L. Rutherford”. Case contains powder flask, 2 cavity mold, cap tin, round balls & bullets. CONDITION: very good. Bbl., frame & loading lever have dull blued finish showing edge wear. Cyl. finish is fading to gray over very good scene. Grip straps retain 90% silver finish. Grips have a pleasing aged yellow appearance showing small grain checks. Sound mechanics. Bore retains strong rifling w/ areas of lightly frosted appearance. (01-22855/JB). ANTIQUE. $6,000-8,000.
