Cal. 44. S# 51389. Bbl. 8" round w/ German silver blade front sight. Gold finished six shot round rebated cyl. Iron backstrap w/ silver finished brass trigger guard. Bbl., cyl., frame, grip straps & loading lever have 75% coverage of New York style vine type foliate scroll w/ punch dot backgrounds. Bbl., frame, grip straps, cyl. & wedge have matching numbers. Frame & backstrap have provisions for shoulder stock attachment. 1 piece grip of checkered Ivory. Right panel has exquisite deep relief carving of a bald eagle & nest of 3 fledglings. Mfg. 1862, during the American Civil War. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: period wood casing w/ marbled walnut lid having circular medallion. Fitted burgundy interior. Case contains powder flask, 2 cavity mold, nipple wrench, German silver oil bottle, wood cleaning rod w/ ebony ball handle, cap tin & round balls. Also contains a wrapped package of six combustible envelope cartridges, cal. 44-100. CONDITION: bbl., frame, loading lever & backstrap have faded to a pleasing antique gray appearance showing some very light pitting. Cyl. retains a ring of remaining gold finish in rebated area. Trigger guard has 50% silver finish. Grips show light checkering wear w/ well preserved carving. Sound action. Bore shows scattered pitting & retains strong intact rifling. (01-22829/JB).
