REVOLVER. Cal. 31. S# 71786. Bbl. 4” octagon w/ engraved Saml Colt marking. Semicircular German silver blade front sight. Round five shot cyl. w/ stagecoach scene roll engraving. Frame, bbl. & grip straps have early factory Germanic vine type scroll engraving w/ punch dot backgrounds as produced in the shop of Gustave Young. Hammer has trademark wolf’s head engraving. Silver finished backstrap & small round trigger guard. 1 Piece walnut grip. Bbl., frame, grip straps, cyl. & wedge have matching numbers. Loading lever has “3744” over added number “86”. Mfg. 1853. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brass covered Colt casing w/ green baize fitted interior showing moderate wear. Case contains pocket sized eagle flask, 2 cavity mold, cap tin, round balls & bullets. CONDITION: iron parts have faded to gray showing general light pitting. Cyl. retains most of its rolled scene. Grip straps have over 30% silver finish. Sanded & refinished grips are undersized w/ chips & a crack extending from the butt of the right panel. Good mechanics. Dark lightly pitted bore retains strong rifling. (01-22846/JB).
